Got to love this sign!

So theft is ok?

By your reasoning, if someone left their car unlocked, it'd be ok to steal it. :?

The other images I've seen on this website have been public image hosts, private webspaces or the forum image hosting.

So it isn't theft of other peoples material you are complaining about, just that it is on someone elses server?
What about the likes of hotlinking images from TLC etc?

Lets ditch locks, alarms and CCTV.

Obviously no need.

If your worried about 'theft', you do something about it.

Look at this way - by hotlinking atleast you are leaving the pic where it is and not 'copying it' and hosting it elsewhere.....now that would be 'real theft'.

But you're stealing bandwidth that someone else is paying for. There was a forum I used to frequent that got shut down for excessive hotlinking.

Similarly, the host a free to change the image to whatever they like. i.e. something that could end up getting you banned.

If a site was shutdown due to hotlinking they should have implemented anti-hotlinking techniques which are VERY easy to achieve.

If you do not want people hotlinking from you - sort it out your end.

That stops you coming up in google image search (and all the others) though, so you drop down the search rankings.

Please do not hotlink images. Use your own bandwidth or a public image host.
But if I download an image that I want to display here onto my PC and then upload it somewhere else, haven't I committed a copyright offence?

Pretty sure that's not true - I've found images before via a Google search and then encountered a block on hotlinking them.
