Grant Boiler Ongoing Problem

Hi everyone.

I'm completely new here and just looking some support and advice for a problem that is well beyond my knowledge base.

We had a new Grant boiler installed which is running our heating perfectly well around the house.

However every time I connect the snorkel tube, the boiler chokes up and shuts off. I have at present ljust left if off to keep the heat on but I know this needs properly fixed.

We also have a leak from where the flue meets the flat roof which drips down considerably when it rains heavily. This has started again today.

We did have the rubber part on top of the roof resealed initially but this problem continues to raise its head.

There were issues fitting this flue at the time and I'm not convinced it was all done correctly.

I have had someone else out to look at it but he didn't have any answers.

Any ideas? I'm convinced it is a poorly fitted / incorrectly set up flue (and likely boiler too) but I don't know much about these things at all.

I am trying to get another professional out on the case too.

Any thoughts or help very much appreciated.

Trying to help my elderly mother get this sorted once and for all because it really is upsetting her.

Sounds like the flue has not been install properly and is sucking polluted air in, which will cause the syptoms you have when you connect the snorkel to the burner. Get the installer back to check it out. I imagine it wasn't commissioned correctly, as this would have been picked up.

Thanks for the reply. I do believe you are very likely correct.
But I would much, much rather move on now and spend whatever money is required to have it all fixed properly.
Probably going to need someone to take the flue right off, remove all sealant from the roof etc. and restart all over again.
I think I will need a boiler man and a roofer then?
Complicated and timely job to coordinate in the middle of winter which is what I am now starting to be concerned about.

Which flue system do you have ?
There are any amount of different options!
Clear pictures of all of flue from in boiler to termination please.

Apologies. Tried to change my privacy settings so that you can now see. I had loaded these into an album I created on my forum login and shared it. Am I doing this correctly? I'm still new to this forum so correct me please if needs be.

Hi everyone - can someone confirm that the pictures I've posted are visible?
Just finding my way with everything at the minute.

That is to be blunt an appalling install difficult to see anything good about it.
The flue is a Grant white system vertical flue.
The terminal should be a minimum 750mm from any surface, all in manufacturers instructions.
No white flue should be on show externally the flue terminal should fit down onto a correct roof slate.
It's possible the flue has been incorrectly assembled causing the issues your experiencing, only way to check is take it apart.
Was the installer/commissioning engineer registered with Grant?

Ok thank you for your honesty and expertise. This is exactly what I need at this point - clarity.

I really did believe at the time that the person working on it was fully qualified, experienced and fit to do the job.
This was replacing our old boiler and this was the position that the old boiler and the old flue were originally in.

I really don't want to conduct a witch-hunt or ruin someone's reputation. That is not my nature or intention. Perhaps some genuine mistakes were made or this particular job just proved too difficult.

I just need to know what's best to do going forward to get this sorted and all in order.
A complete refit / reinstallation of both seems like the answer from what you are saying.
I also need to find the right person to do that which seems increasingly more difficult these days.

Money is not my concern here (though trust me I'm no millionaire). But whatever it takes it takes.

And with my very limited understanding, this also looks like a pitched roof flashing kit and not the flat roof one that is required. Would that be part of the problem too?

Totally wrong flashing the attached pic shows how the terminal/flashing should look just think flat roof not pitched!
Your boiler should have a 5 year warranty if correctly installed and registered with Grant.
