Greta at Bristol.

the diminution of the British Empire and its civilising influence around the world.
SOME SAY that ended with WWII . A lot has happened since then boyo and things have moved on. Your nostalgia, whist compelling and moving, is wasted in a fast moving digital world. Britain no longer has the influence or respect she once did and hasn't for decades.

Isn't that three words?
Wow, the hockey stick is a blast from the past. For those that weren't paying attention there was a reconstruction of the global mean temperature performed in 1998 for the last few hundred/thousand years and it showed the world temperature wobbling around more or less flat for ages, then shooting up massively in the 1900s and in particular the 1950s onwards. It's called the hockey stick as it looks like an ice hockey stick. The study has been discussed in depth in scientific circles and it's held up for the most part and has been improved because of some of the critiques.

For some people it became a totemic rallying cry about blatant falsification of data when it was clear that the world's temperature wasn't rising (spoiler, it was and is). For ages the deniers were crying about how the temperature was falling since 1998, but they stopped that eventually as the average crept up and up.

22 years since publication and that line has continued to shoot up. Just like a hockey stick.

All good then

Are you saying the chart wasn't based on falsified data?
NASA are showing a 1 degree rise in temperature since 1880 and their chart certainly bears little resemblance to a hockey stick.

Yes. It was not falsified/fraudulent or even faked. I don't think there's any credible critique that does support that belief.

The NASA one just shows the uptick, not the longer flattish bit. So of course it doesn't look like a hockey stick.

EDIT: the interesting point of the chart was and is the rate and scale of change. It directly addressed the 'climate is always changing argument' as whilst it does change, it doesn't do it this fast or this much or this consistently.

Regardless of whether one thinks climate change is man made, it's surely self evident we as a human race need to consume less and conserve more. Even an old salt like me is modifying his decades old behaviours, there's no harm in that.

Sound thinking.

Transam will. Not be voluntarily cha nging his behaviour with ref to this climate caper

Only person in our house row that has a blue wheeley bin in pristine condition

SOME SAY that China is the biggest threat to the future peace of the world. Actually, I think that title goes jointly to drug abuse, Islam, the ever increasing number of cars and the diminution of the British Empire and its civilising influence around the world. However, China is pretty awful, as someone in a locked thread commented recently. See the YouTube clip below for more details about China's awfulness - it asks why Greta Thunderbird gives China "a free pass". BUT please note, it's the Chinese government that is awful, not necessarily the Chinese people. Roger Scruton got panned for saying that the Chinese people were replicas of each other; the government is making them so.

The Chinese have lifted 300 million of their people out of poverty through sheer hard work.
The only thing I have against the Chinese is that they will eat anything including their pets.

We know we are responsible for climate change, through emitting CO2 (and other greenhouse gases). Why do you even doubt it?

Why don't you think we can't do something about it? We know how to generate eletricity without carbon emission (renewables and nuclear). We also need to change the economy, change how we carry out farming, and improve the lives of those in need. We know how to do those things without going back to the stone age (or any other past age).
If people are so concerned about Greenhouse gas ,why aren't Greenhouses banned.
