Hi,
I know this has been covered before, but has anyone bought some recently?

I'm thinking about getting some to replace the 4x35w bulbs that are in use at present, but I am a bit wary of how much light the LED's will give out. There seem to be a few about containing from 12 - 30+ LED's. I suppose I would need to get as bright a LED bulb as I can in the same size as a normal bulb.

So, has anyone bought any? If so, Where did you get them from? I would very much appreciate some comments on your experiences.

Thanks.

These are expesive and poor in performance. If it is in your house and light is main source of lighting, dont bother. PS i would consider changing to low voltage if i were you.

Don't bother, I bought a load to replace GU10's for my hallway, they give a horible 'cold' sterile light very different from standard halogens.

What's the benefit of using low voltage? Is it because it uses transformers to reduce the voltage and therefore less electricity is used when comparing with a 240V 50W bulb?

nope.

50 watss is still 50 watts

12v lamps it is often argued give a brighter crisper light

led lights are good for accent lighting or novelty value if you get a colour changing one

Exactly as Breezer states. However also if a decent brand used they also last much longer, less heat, cheaper to purchase.

Thanks, I will have a look at 12V lights in the future.

For the meantime, I will be looking for new branded 240v bulbs, as the cheap ones dont last too long.

make sure you buy a decent transformer also. Mode, IBL, or Aurora (not the cheaper ones of Aurora)
