Underfloor heating not working in kitchen (flat ribbon under wood)

Electric shocks when customer touches tap.

Could it be a nail through the UF heating element when reinstalling the wooden floor and damp under the sink connecting it to the tap?

Or, was the CPC used instead of the Line to the UF heating and the Line used for Supp Bonding to the pipework? (or some varation on this)

Would've thought an RCD would catch these though.

nope.

underfloor heating is flat ribbon- no cpc. and connected up right polarity wise.

plus RCD working, obv. shock level quite low (but flippin' noticable when you're stood in socks!!)

Lack of bonding on the pipework and some sort of electromagnetic induction into pipework within the floor screed?

nope.

The single fault that's given rise to the problem is fairly simple, although there may be another issue thats affecting things.

..but almost there, programmer relay had a neutral fault/break.

I believe because of this the floor was in a "charged" state, with no neutral the customer became the path of least resistance when they stood on it and touched the tap

Out of intrest, under the 17th all such elements must have a earthed grid. Was this the case under 16th?

The only one I've been completely involved with under the 16 th was a bathroom and had such- some sort of conductive tape affair that you stuck down all over it and bonded.

Its electro-magnetic induction.

The film element has been installed with no earthed screen over it.
A person standing on the wooden floor will have a voltage induced into them thru the wooden floor. When they touch the tap (a true earth) there will be a potential difference, hence the shock.

Had this problem somewhere else (not installed by me) and the cust was getting shocks when touching someone else who was standing on an adjacent stone flagged area. I measured between 70 and 95v between two people in socks.

We had to pull up all of the floor and lay earthed carbon mesh to cure it.

I'll dig out a pic of the mesh later.

Do I win the prize??

Bah, too late, and wrong.....

Hairy, i think the earthed shield thing is just for bathrooms... see 701.753

Nah you were in the ball park, between you, RF's neutral thoughts and a special mention to blondini's static you got it.

Regarding earth shield, 753.411.3.2 seems to imply it should be everywhere, I don't know what I've done with my old 16th book, but am I right in thinking 753 is a new section anyway?
