Hi
Just noticed a brown spot on my bedroom roof the other day which is directly under the loft in a new build house (3 years old).

popped into the attic to investigate (for the first time in 3 years believe it or not).

There is a drain running from the centre of the apex of the roof routing out to I assume the guttering or waste pipe.

It looks like there is a raised slate providing an air gap on the outside of the roof, inside there is a hopper like box, fixed to this which i guess is to collect blown in water, but there is another large fitting before it steps down to white 55mm pvc then routing to drain, there is an obvious leak on the large fitting where it steps down to 55mm which i can clean up and glue etc to seal it, just wanted to know what all this stuff is and what it does exactly, and any pointers/pitfalls etc

it was after a particularly heavy/windy rainstorm, so probably not an issue day to day
cheers for any advice

Not a clue, any chanc of a piccy?

You don't have a gas condensing boiler in the loft do you?

Is it drainage from a central lead valley running through roof space and into outer hopper.
A lot of the older houses used to have a lead lined box gutter running through the roof space and discharging into a hopper.
I supose the modern method now, if theres no other alternative to draining a central gutter, would be done in 100mm pipe.
