Half wall structural?

I have a half wall on my landing that I would like to knock down and replace with a landing rail. It use to be the wall/entrance to a bedroom before the bathroom was installed upstairs and a new door way added.

I was thinking to tackle myself by just knocking of plaster and removing with hand tools brick by brick. After doing some browsing I’m now worried that the half wall could be providing structural support to the rest of the wall. Should I be consulting a structural engineer?

As there is nothing above it then it is unlikely to be doing much structural work so i would say you are safe to remove it. Do you know it is brick as it may well be a timber wall ?
