I have an upstairs landing spot light with 3 bulbs of 20W but by mistake I used a 50W bulb and ever since the lights do not work. I also have similar lights in the bedroom and left them on one evening, when we returned we switched the lights off and now they no longer work.

Any suggestions on what I can try.

Putting higher wattage bulbs in not only increases the current, it also generates more heat.

Could be a number of things.

Check that the bulbs don't need replacing.
Check if any voltage is getting to the light fittings when the switch is on.
If there's not, check that there's no fuses / circuit breakers blown at the c/u.

It's a case of seeing where the break in the supply is.

I would say at least for the one you put the wrong lamp in, you'll have burnt out the transformer windings, and will need to replace the transformer
