WHen installing halogens do i need to install fire hoods on them to stop the actual lights setting insualation alight or are the fire hoods simply to retain the fire barrier that the ceiling provides?

These are all new lights into new ceilings with new insulation so i presume new insulations are made not to be flameable.

Fire hoods are to maintain fire integrity of ceilings in flats.

insulation should not be near downlights - build something to keep insulation away. hot lamps die young.
