hello

I have just moved home and the person I bought the house from was a heating engineer we have lived here now for 2 months, the Halstead Finest Gold Combi Boiler was working fine though is not providing any hot water or central heating. When I turn on the hot water tap or shower the extration fan starting though their is no ignition from any of the burners to heat the water the water just runs cold. If I look on the front of the boiler I get a flashing red light after about 20 seconds of the hot water or central heating being turned on. I have downloaed teh manual from the internet and done the fault finding though still no joy.

A friend of mine is a qualified electrician and he had a look at it last night testing the outputs from the pcb to the fan ect and could not find any issue, though he had to rush off and said he could not find 230v/240v from the PCB to the mains gas valve - will this be problem ?

I have looked online and a new gas valve will cost £240.00 is it worth investing in a boiler that is already 10 years old. ??

Many thanks for taking the time to reply

problem 1 sparks are not allowd to test the fan get registered gas engineer in to look at the problem

Thanks for the reply but if his volt meter said it was working why do i need to pay £50.00 call out charge + 1 hours labour to be told yes the fans working

My question really is why has the safety cut out operated and is flashing as in my first post

as to get to the fan you have to break the combustion seals and their fore it has to be tested for safty other wise getting the boiler up running on the cheap may be very expensive

i know exactly what the problem is and so should any gas man, get it serviced and make sure its properly stripped down, they will find the problem then.

Well do you think from what I have described that the boiler can be fixed or should I replace it with a new system
