I have a question on what can be used as hardcore on a concrete slab floor. I have knocked down some outbuildings to make way for an extension and wondering if I can use the old bricks that are in good condition as hard core. Lay them down side by side ? Does anyone know if the building inspector will accept this.

You can bash the bricks down. This will break them which is a good way of consolidating the rubble. Soft red or yellow bricks are easier to break than hard pink Flettons.

Be sure that you don't get any wood or plaster in the material.

p.s. when you said "on" did you mean "under?"

Yes sorry I mean under the concrete slab floor. I didnt think I would have to smash them up maybe just lie them next to each other. If I have to smash them up I will save the broken half bricks etc as well then.

Def break them up and compact them into the ground. Do not lay them out side by side the bc will not accept this.
