stops them being prone to freezing when fitted outside ie in the tap.

cheers, how long has this been in force ? done my water regs about 2yrs ago and i cant re-call it in them

My WRAS guide was printed in 2001 and external NRVs were not permitted then, so it's been in force for at least ten years.

I think the water regs were 1998 and slightly amended in 1999.

Perhaps some of the tutors are a little remiss in not pointing it out.

or i didnt pay proper attantion but then iv only been in the game since 05 and iv been adviced since then to use them, good job i dont fit many

Agreed. Not mandatory as I read the regs.

Yes they should be prevented from freezing by being installed
inside the building or by other means.
