I have just had a visit from council for build regs as I am converting a garage into a office...he points out a few areas that I still need to complete but he also said as the access door is from the kitchen extension I need a heat detector in the kitchen by the entrance door...bit of a pain fitting it in as kitchen has just been refurbished but what I need to know is will it need its seperate feed from the consumer unit or can I just come off the ring main

Either dedicated supply or off your lighting circuit. Not your ring main/final.

Do you already have mains powered smoke alarms in the rest of your property?
