Heat pumps

I have used heat pumps for years, they make the temperature low enough to live in comfort in warmer climes, and some did reverse, and also heat on cold days, in the main they were a box which fitted into a hole, think they were called "Window Wall Box Air Conditioner" and these worked well, but in this country they don't seem to be so popular 1685471165225.pngthe main point is they worked in just one room, it was not a central system, so worked out cheaper, the things which are being pushed to heat our homes are large fixed units which replace the central heating boiler, but to cool they need a way to remove the condensate, so many are heat only which seems a bit daft, and also to heat and cool it needs a fan of some type.

If fitting due to global warming then clearly they need to work in both directions.

Yes.

They've been the "future" in many other countries for decades. The UK is finally catching up

What ive read and watched about them, is they cant supply enough heat in the winter & you need a top up heat supply. Im talking air source not ground source.

To prep for these its a good idea to oversize radiators and increase the insulation in your home.

They work perfectly well when correctly specified & installed. A kw of heat is a kw of heat no matter how it's generated. 10kW from a heat pump is exactly the same as 10kW from a gas boiler. Places like Scandinavia, Canada, and the USA get much colder than here and have been using heat pumps for 30-40 years.

Air source ones?

I have a possible job, that involves installing heat pumps in a group of 3/4. Installed in a day.

Can a air source heat pump reliably produce the 10kw of heat constantly?

Can a gas boiler? Yes, if the gas is up to spec and there's enough of it.

Same with a heat pump, the colder the day, the lower the COP, and that's where design and understanding come into it
