Heating problem

Hi everyone.

Hopefully someone can give me some advise on the issues I am having at the moment. I will try and keep it brief but forgive me if I mumble on...

Just before Christmas we had a new wall timer fitted for our heating & water which unfortunately didn't go to plan and blew up. We got another and had it fitted again which was successful but a valve had blown in the previous fitting which had to be changed. This was all done and our heating & hot water has worked perfectly since.....

Yesterday I noticed my heating wasn't coming on (I usually have the thermostat set to 17 degrees so it kicks in automatically if it drops below this) anyway I turned the stat down & then back up again until I heard the click but nothing happened. I went in to the garage and the boiler pilot light was off... I tried numerous things and nothing happened so I called potterton / baxi for advise but the guys I needed to talk to typically left at 5pm so I had no luck. My partner arrived home and he told me to turn the water on together with the heating to see if the boiler pilot light would come on & it did !!! However the heating still doesn't come on!!! So basically we have hot water but no heating and as soon as we turn the water off on the timer the boiler pilot light goes out!

Any advise would be gratefully received..

Ps we have a water storage tank and a potterton profile 40e boiler.

.....and you've probably got one of these in the airing cupboard. They are different. You either will have one 3 port or two 2 port valves. Either way I would suspect that there's a fault with them. View media item 38425 View media item 44939

We have the one in the first photo show, that was what was replaced last time I'm sure? Could it be possible that there is a fault already with it? It was only fitted December. Do they generally come with warranty

It's possible that the internal motor has failed, but to be sure you would need to do some tests using a multimeter. Test to ensure a feed to your room stat and from the RS to the White wire of the 3 port valve. If all of this is out of your comfort zone, then it would take only a few mins for a pro to diagnose.
