When we go off to bed at night my central heating goes off. However around 2-3 in the morning my heating comes on and blast out heat. Nothing wrong there you might think except the heating is switched OFF and has not been programmed to come on.

We had done a little research and found that it could be the Drayton mid position actuator. However the only way to get it switched off was to switch the mains electric off.

This did work however last night we had the same problem. Would the mid position valve actually put the jesting on??

if you have a modern boiler & it's fitted in an unheated space then it's prob the boilers built in frost stat

there you are then thats the prob, you would be better to have a seperate frost stat combined with a low limit pipe stat on the return, although the boiler will still come on if the temp drops

Thanks for your suggestions. I may be wrong but is it ok to leave as is then or will it damage the boiler

No it wont damage the boiler the boiler is protecting itself from frost damage, as previously advised get a pipe stat fitted that will protect the boiler but save you heating your house when you dont want or need to

the boilers built in frost stat is doing exactly what it should switching on the boiler to protect it from freezing, it will be perfectly ok to leave it just don't turn off the electric to it or you may end up with a frozen & knackered boiler

ditto above :)
