Hi

Currently getting my bathroom done and I let the person know I wanted the old architraves removing and new ones fitting eventually because I’m getting new doors put in at the end of the month… only thing is, they have tiled right up to the frame with only a small gap? And the wall is half tiled. I will share a picture.

I am struggling to picture how arch’s are gonna be put on here. He is such a nice guy doing it, I wanted to know if there was a reason he’s done this or a easy-ish solution before I bring it up. If it’s a disaster I’ll need to approach it differently. I have next to no clue about joinery work… or anything DIY related for that matter. Please help me out thanks!

it looks to me like he has assumed the architrave would match the RHS.

sadly he has very carefully set cut tiles to the door opening to match the cut tile on the LHS, so if the tiles are now cut back for say a 70mm architrave you will end up with a little Charlie bit

will the architrave be thicker than the tiles -could the back of the arch be rebated to go over?

I have not yet chosen any architrave so if that is a solution, then I am happy with going for something thicker! The tiles are 7mm thick

I didn’t know if this would be such a terrible job that it will take me so long to find someone to do it! (Had first hand experience with this lately!). I can message the person who’s doing my doors, see if he can do anything with it. We were just going to replace architrave ourselves until this little blip! Never mind.

Thanks for your response. Appreciate it
