I have bought a new ceiling light and have managed to take down the old one, yep that's the easy part i know! Stupidly I didn't take a picture of how the old ones where fitted. Now I have lots of wires and no idea where to stick them, any help please?

I understand that the wires are forming a circuit board from my light switch to this light and then on to my other ceiling light at the other end of the room. I just don't know how to do it!

Here is a pic of what's going on, please help me from Boxing Day misery! View media item 70714

You're not the first and not the last.

Why take things like that apart without making a note?

Telling off over.

MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF BEFORE STARTING WORK.

EDITED till further info arrives.

CORRECTION.

Threre may not be a cable there containing two reds,

Can you send another picture, or check if there's another black or red not shown in the picture?

I know I know, but the husband said it would be easy!! And now I'm the one fixing it.
Anyway, here is another picture, I've spent the last hour playing with it! All electric off so still alive.

One cable is for this light, one for the switch and one for the other in the room. But you know that! I have lots of this little plastic connectors too. Hope you can help!

Ok, so there is one cable with just a red and earth - and no black in it.

Possibly this is the switch. Can you take a photo of inside the switch?

Is there just one light in the room, or does the switch control two or more lights?

I'm guessing that's the switch one yep, I'll check and take photo, we have another ceiling light in the room too. Which I'm guessing again is the other cable with all 3 wires.

You have a two gang switch there. Do the two ceiling lights come on separately, using both the switches?

Or does one switch do both ceiling lights, and the other switch does something else?

Yes they come on separately using each switch. It doesn't do anything else.

In the switch, is there another cable that's had the black cut out?

I'm guessing at the switch there is a cable with a red, a black, and earth.
And another cable with just red and earth.

Look again. It looks like there's a black with a red sleeve over it.

If so, see if the OTHER cable consists of just red and earth.
