Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a boiler temperature setting disagreement.....

Currently we have our Valliant ecoTEC 824 boiler set to 42 degrees which I find way too cold for winter. I'm not even sure what 42 degrees equates to in terms of the room temperature but I'm sure it's too low. There is a bit of a disagreement in our flat as to what what temp it should be set at in order to keep the bills down but still sufficiently warm the flat.

So my question is....Can anyone tell me what is the ideal temperature setting in winter on a Valliant ecoTEC 824 boiler which would still keep the heating cost down but keep the house warm enough that I don't have to walk around in a big fleece jumper?

Thanks guys!

Best of luck finding the ideal temperature. I have our heating set to 20°C. The girlfriend is going through the change (don't ask) and thinks no heating on is ideal for her. She'd be happy sat in a snowstorm in a T Shirt.
I'm assuming your boiler controls are set to 42°C. Do you have a room thermostat on your heating system? That's the one you should be setting to reach and maintain a comfortable temperature.

I think the OP is mistaking Heating Flow temperature as set on the boiler with Room temperature!!! set the boiler flow temp to 65 - 70 'C for optimum performance!!

42C is way too low a flow temperature for winter temperatures - nowhere enough heat transfer from that to adequately heat a house. Go for nearer 70C, if not more.

Hi All,

Thanks guys!

That was back during January!

Now I am sure she has a thin white tee shirt and a short denim skirt.

But when winter 2011 returns with a vengeance, the most cost effect way to set the heating temperature is when wearing that thick fleece jumper!

The same advice still stands whether its a bird or a bloke in a skirt!
