Hello.... I have one almighty fault on my laptop.

It was working fine yesterday, turned it all off as usual last night.

This morning its seems close to death

When i try to boot it up i get lots of red blocks in rows (sometimes yellow) then the screen goes blank and that s it.

The only way to get it to work is to boot it up in VGA mode and even then the display has lines running from top to bottom.

Also if i boot it up in VGA mode and try to change the display settings it just goes back to the rows of red blocks.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The laptop is a fujitsu siemens amilo m1437g.

Its under warranty but if there is something i can try that would be better than having to get them to repair it.

Thanks

If you have screen corruption in VGA mode, i.e. safe mode, then it is unlikely that downloading drivers would help - VGA mode is (to all intents and purposes) a driverless mode since it replicates the conditions that exist prior to an OS being loaded.

You could try re-installing Windows but if you get the coloured blocks even before Windows has booted into the desktop then it is highly likely to be a hardware fault. Therefore I think you would be looking at a laptop warranty repair in this situation.
