recently tiled a bathroom wall with 400 x 300 tiles with tubbed adhesive,

New plaster on 2 walls - plasterboard on two others. Finished job and gone back to start grouting, and tiles fell off!

Adhesive is stuck to walls but not tiles. Tiles literally dropping off wall.

Adhesive is brittle and comes away from wall easily but so have tiles...

Any advice?

thanks

Tubbed adhesive is no good for tiles of that size, should have been powdered adhesive,Plasterboard is not an ideal substrate to tile on, would have been better to remove and redo with aquaboard or similiar. My advice would be remove them all and start again

one good thing is the tiles will clean up if you soak them in warm water the adhesive will come off if its stuck to the tiles, and at least you wont need to cut any more tiles its just like a big jigsaw now.

Wrong; pre-mix tub addy is no good for that size/weight tile, it will take forever to set, best strip it as advised by Nick. You need to use cement based addy (flexible on boards) on anything over 300 x 200mm but if tiling onto gypsum plaster of plaster board you must use an acrylic primer to avoid reaction between the cement addy & gypsum. Have read through the Tiling archive posts, it may just prevent you making more expensive mistakes ;)

also when you say ...new plaster..how long ago was it plastered(was it a skim)..plaster?

Also who's adhesive was it? There is cheap adhesive & there is quality adhesive that actually works.
