help specify new consumer unit

It is a smart meter - fitted by EON about 18 months ago along with a similar one for the Gas - although it hasn't stopped meter readers visiting every quarter - I don't think EON trust them!

Electrician has agreed a flexible split load consumer unit is the way forward with a mix of grouped MCB circuits protected by RCD and RCBO for individual circuits for the new and existing wiring.

Hopefully existing house wiring is up to scratch and will take RCD/RCBO protection.

Any recommendations for a top quality consumer unit? The Wylex 17way flexible split load looks a good option.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Choice of unit is best left to the sparky, he will have prefered brands normally and will work out the capacity after the periodic report, you may have several circuits doubled up that could or should be seperated.

It isn't.

Electrium (who make Wylex, Crabtree and Volex) are the company which had all of those defective MCBs recalled recently.
Nothing wrong with that, any company can have problems and therefore recall products.

The problem is that these defective items were being turned out of the factory for over a YEAR before anyone noticed. Evidently quality control and testing are optional there.
