Hi folks,

We are relaying floor boards that have a lot of gaps in them.

We think they are pine.

If we can salvage some of them, we will buy other reclaimed floor boards of the same type if we can find them, and fit them.

Does anyone know if these are pine and what type if so?

Thanks

If you are taking them up, I strongly recommend cleaning out the void beneath, and packing mineral wool between the joists. This will add insulation and, more importantly, block cold draughts blowing up.

Clean out the airbricks and do not block them.

Insulate any pipes in the void.

If you use screws rather than nails, future access will be easier.

Yes, they are pine. Seems like a fairly modern house, but any idea of the age of the building and the width of the boards? In all probability if the house is post-WWII (1945) they will be either Scandinavian or Baltic (Russian/Belarussian/Latvian) redwood or (cheaper) whitewood, although American southern yellow pine is also a (less likely) possibility

Whatever you install you are unlikely to get a perfect grain/colour match, even if you sand the flooring but rest assured that it all yellows with age and exposure to light
