Herringbone with any size tile?

I am having an oblong room tiled and to make it look wider want to put tiles down in herringbone design, have looked up details but not sure my tiles are right size - they are 31.6 x 60.8 or 12.5" x 24" - is it possible or will the grout be thicker in places? guidence really welcomed!
