Looks like stippled paint to me. Wet a section and see if it scrapes away. Even if it is artex, because it is wet, it should stay together when it comes off and then immediately put it in a bag to stop it making a mess.

I think if it is a 'modern' artex it won't contain asbestos, if that is your worry.

Hi conny thanks for the reply. I believe it is around 30s to late 70s when it was done . Does that make a difference?
 
That's clearly wood chip paper.
See the vertical join.
See the paper lifting near the metal trunking.
Looks like wood chip and nothing like artex.


If it was anything else it could be a polytex but I don't think so.
Photos can be misleading
 
I reckon woodchip. Scrape a bit of the texture - you should find a little chip of wood inside.
 
A steam stripper would help wood chip or textured paint. Having stripped stippled paint before, it steams off well.
 
Cheers guys. Assuming it is what most people have said above am I ok taking all of the plaster off the wall? I am re plastering the house
