I have a number of these that I'm going to install around my house, I really don't like the Hikvision base Ds 1280 zj-s due to its overall size.
Any advice please for any alternatives on cable entry/exit.
I was wondering if I could drill the base & use a stuffing gland into 6mm flexi conduit to run it back into the house for connection to the NVR.

The DS-1280ZJ-S is chunky because it needs to house the pigtail connections and RJ45 crimp. Two cleaner routes for a turret like the DS-2CD2345FWD:
1. DS-1280ZJ-DM8 (the "DM8" base sparkymarka mentioned) - it is shallower, neater, and takes a standard M20 gland straight into 20 mm conduit or flexi. Still gives you room for the pigtail and a punch-down RJ45 if you want.
2. If you want to avoid a base entirely: drill the camera's own base plate (centre knockout) for an M16 or M20 cable gland, run 20 mm PVC conduit or 16 mm flexible conduit straight into the soffit/loft, and terminate the Cat5e on a patch panel or keystone jack inside. You lose the weatherproof RJ45 box but gain a much slimmer profile. Seal the gland with self-amalgamating tape and silicone.
Either way, keep the bend radius gentle on the Cat5e (min 4x cable diameter) and don't run data cable tight against mains. If the run is long (>80 m), use solid-core Cat6 and a PoE switch at the far end rather than relying on the NVR's built-in PoE.
