Passed my test in a Hunter, reclining seats, 8 track stereo and a heater that did'nt work, passenger door used to fly open at random, made life interesting

I used to have a Hillman Hunter. It was a nice toy 1725 engine and a load of 'cream cheese' under the oil filler cap. They were prone to a bit of condensation in the pipe that led to it.
I remember once the track rod end fell off the rack and one wheel was doing its own thing. I jacked it up and slipped a sack barrow under it and got a mate to drive it slowly up the road as I steered it with the sack barrow.
Happy Days

BTW your bottom pic is of a Hillman Avenger

Had a Hillman 'Minx' many years ago. 1500 engine. Rocker box full of cream cheese. Fuel gauge that lied through it's teeth. Always had the feeling the steering was held together with rubber bands (crossply remoulds  ) It suffered a mysterious lack of performance until I found the diaphragm in the Zenith CD carb had fallen apart. Had the handbrake lever on the right, so It didn't get in the way when giving the girlfriend a lift home

Ah, ha .. The ladies thought that was a hanger for the handbag .. "Good cold starting but after that ..phew!"

I still have the 1970 pukka dark blue Brit' Leyland, looseleaf 'Mini' (all variants) workshop manual and the same in pale blue for 'Midget and Sprite' ... priceless to me !

Now if I could get hold of a 970 cc 'S' .... But I am sure 'her indoors' would find something else to tip the wallet up - on.

Memories

My Hillman Husky Estate, 1969 / 70 colour champagne pink if I recall correctly, also had a clothes peg for the choke.

Great little vehicle, other than the colour. And having to find the clothes peg under the seat.......

Flirtation with Rootes group ... Sunbeam Alpine ... Solid sportscar with brilliant hood storage ... Real nice dashboard, IIRC the fuel guage was marked in gallons and quite accurate... 1725 cc engine... Not quite a Tiger.
