Hi,

Am having a new kitchen fitted and thought the electrics was going to be a piece of cake. Think I now need a sparkie, but dont have one I trust here yet, so want to understand this before I call one in.......

House was re-wired about 5 years back and only has 6mm cable on Cooker circuit connected to a 32 amp MCB at the main board. But previously this only had a 3kw Oven and a gas hob ignition attached. Unfortunately the new kitchen will replace the gas hob with a 7.3 Kw AEG induction hob.

1. I assume that 6mm is too low to accept hob and oven (total 10.3kw), even if the MCB was upped to 45 amp? If it helps, cable run is about 10 meters, behind plasterboard and under floor (no conduit).

2. It would seem that the 6mm with 32 amp MCB is fine for the 7.3Kw hob on its own. So is it legal to wire a 3Kw single oven into the the main socket ring on 2.5mm? If not it seems a bit odd as my mum has a 3Kw Micro / combi oven with a 13 amp plug on, so I guess a ring should be able to take that?

3. Any other options, as if the sparkie has to put in a 10mm cable or even an extra 6mm, then thats going to be carnage. Will probably have to tell the missus she cant have her new fancy hob and that could result in my golf and p*ss up passes being revoked!

Thanks
Binner

U can run your 3KW oven with a 13A plug into a socket on the ring. The hob can be powered from the old cooker 6mm/32A circuit.
