Hoover OPH148 Washing Machine Wont Spin

Bought a new washing machine in October 2009 which has been fine until today when, for some reason, it would not fast spin. Phoned the helpline and was asked to check the filter which was clear and also to check the hose for kinks - there were none. So engineer is calling on Thursday to check it out. Meanwhile, I thought I would check it on a fast wash with a medium spin and the utility room was flooded with water from the filter plug (cant tighten it any more).

Should I let the engineer deal with it or ask Currys to replace it?
 
If you only brought it in October, it should still be under manufacturer warranty. Call comet and you should get it sorted out or replaced free of charge
 
You may have displaced the rubber seal around the filter plug....whatever happens, it shouldn't leak there!
