How old is the socket? how old is the plug? are you using an extension lead? Or an adaptor?

Is it a double socket, with something else plugged into it, such as a washing machine?

Take the plug out, and post photos of the back and front, and of the socket, please.

its a single socket that i only use for the tumble dryer i do have a bit of exstesion on it but its fulleyunravelled the socket is only about 8 years old

Probably bad connections in the plug, or the socket, or worn pins on the plug or contacts in the socket.

Turn power off and check connections are clean and tight. If that doesn’t fix it, change both the plug and the socket.
