Help please, My washer was working ok, however I went into the kitchen and i could smell something electrical burning.

The washer was dead, after opening it up i looked at the ciruit board to find a resistor had burnt out, why i dont know, but my problem is i cant read the value of the resistor R11 as its cracked and burnt,

Just looked at one of these boards and the stripes on resistor R11 are:

Brown
Black
Brown
Grey
Gold

If I remember the colour code correctly that would be 100 ohm, 5% tolerance. Not sure about the grey, perhaps that indicates the wattage?

The grey is the multiplier, 10.1 G ohms, +/- 5%

The resistors cracked and i can see a little burn under it.
I may try the local tv repair shop a pound or so should think, but maybe i will get the guy to check the board over.

i'm not sure if this is just natural wear and tear or if there's a fault somewhere.

Thanks for the help !

probably get one at maplin.

i cant see how a bloke in a tv repair shop can check the board over, since he has no way of testing it. checking for othrer naff components yes.

i would suspect something else has gone though

maplin have a wire wound one, code L100r

I unsoldered one end of the resistor and measured its resistance, it is 100 ohm. What looked like a grey band may just be a handling mark from the robotic board assembling equipment. Still not sure of the wattage, by the size of the component it might be 2 watt.

well if you have shown it has 100 ohms its just got a bit hot then, it has not failed, something else has

White goods techs do not usually fault find and repair down to component level therefore You may have a problem finding a circuit diagram for this. It looks to be judging by the position of this resistor which is next to the mains input that it is probably a current surge resistor which may be a fusible resistor (these are resistors designed to go open circuit on the machine drawing excessive current)and I can tell you that they do not normally overheat under normal running conditions it would have been cooked or become open circuit because of a surge of current either on the pcb or by a fault somewere else in the machine. Therefore the likelyhood of just replacing the resistor is that it would just burn up or go o/c again

It was me who measured a good resistor, not nigelbytes1 measurement of the blackened one. ;)

Finally sorted out my problem, motor brushes very worn also fitted the resistor, I have another problem now, after turning the washer upside down to replace the motor i have three connectors to the pcb that have been mixed up, anyone help please.
three plugs,
connectors from the left
plug 1=2 red wires
plug 2=2 black wires
plug 3=1 black 1 blue

Are these the correct connections ?

Help please.

I have the exact same problem resistor R11 has blown what value did you find the resistor to be and did replacing it work.

I suggest you try a 100 ohm 2 watt, resistors are cheap enough.
