House alarm reconnection

You have a problem with the front door contacts, but that wouldn't have been caused by the power cut. If you feel confident, then get a new door contact, take a note of where the wires go, put the alarm into engineering mode, and then replace it. Whilst the alarm is in engineering mode, you can then open the panel, and change the battery.

Instruct everybody to press RESET twice before arming the alarm.

Ask your wife to practice doing this while you are there.

Is she still having problems getting the system to arm?

This sounds silly, but is she using the same code as you?

If you can do a walk test of all zones would be the best bet zone one will flash if your setting alarm with front door open . light should clear if you close the door while counting down in set mode . some you can walk test if you still have instructions but if your stuck walk test all zones in set countdown. just input you code to stop the alarm setting till you have checked all zones... if you get flustered just disconnect the external sounder wire (speaker) while your working on it then at least it's limited to the internal sounders and key pad. . with all zones closed all lights should go clear and sounder may change note. if a zone is not extinguishing lets say zone one that you think you may have the problem...you need to look more closely at the zone...(door contact or pir) if you think the switch / pir is to blame . I'd bypass it at the panel . If it works ok then try the same at the switch/pir if its ok its the pir/switch . If the fault comes back bypassed here its a brake in one of the wires. Could of been a bad connection to panel/ switch/pir... Another thing to bare in mind is if the wiring to zone is unsupported the wires tend to stretch and you may see bowing in the cable run .the wires are fine and may of broke along its length. .I don't know your panel but as said some panels you need to reset twice . After a an alarm trigger on or old panel you had to input code """" to disarm then it indicated zone that had triggered alarm on panel eg 4 you then needed to input code """"# to reset all lights should clear ready in standby... you just need to find out what triggered the zone. (4) as the problem may still exist.. (eg spider inside pir is one curse).

If its setting ok in full set its possible. Your wife is setting to full set rather than part set . Some have more than one part settings ... full, part 1,part 2 . Only way to check your part setting without going into eng mode is to set panel to part set and walk test while armed . live zones will start either a countdown or full trigger ( full trigger =int/external sounder) in part set some panes may be set to only trigger int sounders with /without the est strobe trigger. but the internal sounders/ keypads will sound different to a countdown/work though zone . Hope this help some times easier to do than explain...

Richard - please print out your posts, and have someone read them out loud, exactly as they are written, and see how much sense they make.
