Need some advice.

I've had my artex ceiling skimmed. To paint it, I applied 1 coat of mist paint and 2 coats of matte emulsion paint. I can still see roller marks on the ceiling.

How do I get rid of the marks? Can I apply a third coat of emulsion?

Yes.

What paint did you use?

Are you using a woolly sort of roller?

Not pressing too hard when you finish off?

Are the marks from the edges of the roller? Or do you mean patchy paint coverage?

I used a water down Dulux super matte for the mist and normal emulsion for the other coats.

No it's a woolly.

I tried to maintain even pressure, but doesn't seem to have worked.

It's patchy paint coverage.

So I can go over with a third coat?

Can I target the patchy areas or would I have to paint the whole ceiling?

The whole ceiling. Otherwise you will still get patches.

You should give the whole ceiling a quick, light sand down first, and dust off.

You need to work quickly, and confidently, and spread it out well.

How does the sanding help? What grade of sand paper should I use?

I've also been reading online about using a mild sheen paint instead of matte - apparently that hides the marks better...is that true?

I think the reverse is true.

it is hard to focus the eyes on a matt surface that is uniformly lit, and it does not reflect from undulations.

If you can see patches, there may be some uneven ridges of paint that might just need sanding off.

Also there may be small bits of crud from the previous coats.

If you don't think there's any such imperfections, don't bother with the sanding.
