how many is a billion?

I started school in 66 at age of four and finished in 78 educated in both scotland an england ,finished apprenticeship in 82 and it was always ours and yanks way.

born '76 and still tought that a billion was a million million... mind you i think our history books only went as far as 1066 as well...

Okay, Okay ... I obviously went to a reform school ... Can we move on to something easy please like Deal or No Deal odds, Immigration, Oil, Speeding Drivers ....

Heard it was a good one as it was Approved.. Old ones are the best.

When I was at school, it was always the case that a UK Billion was a million million, and a US Billion was a thousand million.

However, I think the old UK Billion has died out now (or at least, changed its name to a Trillion) and the thousand million is nearly universal.

Certainly, when the government announces x-number-of-billions in public spending, they mean thousands of millions, as it sounds better....

a billion is lots, something youll never have to count to, and never have in the bank, or owe anyone, so dont worry!

1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 Megabyte = 1024 Kilobytes
1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes
1 Terrabyte = 1024 Gigabytes

Well.... You may well be right, but I'm sure there is a difference of opinion depending on who you ask. I've often seen a megabyte referred to as 1000 KB
Even good ole wiki don't seem too sure.

It does depend on context as to whether it's calculated on Base 2 or Base 10 (binary or decimal)

Computing definition (which is where it is most widely used I'd say) is Base 2 and that is the definition I gave you.
