How many sockets on a ring 32 MCB

Hi guys

I just wanted to know regarding a ring main how many double sockets can a 32amp mcb handle or is recomended to handle or is it just the length of the circuit to watch out for? and if theres anything in the regs about this?

The general rule of thumb is unlimited sockets on the ring on a floor area of 100m² in a domestic environment, but this is open to more sensible design as there are areas such as kitchens/utility rooms which require careful consideration.

In addition, you should make sure that the ecpected load is balence around the ring final, the tendancy to put the kitchen sockets on the downstairs ring final can mean a all the high load stuff is clustered near one end of the rfc!

I dont think the problem of all high load on one circuit applies to me as I have a ring for downstairs one for upstairs and one just for the kitchen.

So all should be alright for me right to add up to say 5 more double sockets upstairs?

Putting the kitchen on the main downstairs ring is generally considered a bad idea because it can imbalance it. I don't think there is a specific reg against it but I think there may be something more general about making sure rings are reasonablly balanced.

Restricting the number of sockets on a circuit would be stupid because it would just encourage more use of extention leads, not significantly change the load on the circuit.
