I think it was mainly only MK that did double sockets with the four fixing screws at the top and bottom anyway.

They still made 25mm deep double metal flush boxes with all six fixing lugs, even though realistically you would need a 35mm deep one for those MK double sockets.

Even Crabtree made double pattresses with six fixing lugs, yet I don't recall them making double sockets with four fixing holes.

Thats just the cover, the spacing and size is different, the grid it goes on is normal fixings.
|I think the reason for the 4 lug single box nowadays, is to do with the
combinations of knockouts it has, ie 1 in centre or two on same side

If you have not used one before fit the grid to the wall first. with the wires through the hole, then wire the switches and clip them in after.

Dont loose the smaller 3mm screws that came with the cover plate.

Theres an earth terminal on the grid that should be used and linked to the back box and incoming earth wire

The house was built in the 50s and I'd hazard a guess it's original.

There are some pretty double ones with neons here (bottom left of pic 3)
