Hi all,

Wonder if I can get some advice

Have been digging my garden out to create a decking area. However I am now left with a mixture of soil in places and clay soil in some and these cause puddles in places. Have tried levelling the area somewhat but i am assuming having a level surface is not going to be good for drainage as the water has nowhere to go.

Is there anything I can put on top to help soak up the water? Like rubble or similar?

Thanks in advance

Best solution would be to dig out and install a soakaway http://www.pavingexpert.com/drain08.html

Unfortunately rubble wont soak up water. Adding plenty of sharp sand to clay should improve drainage, but it really needs to be mixed into the clay to be effective, so requires borrowing or hiring a rotivator.
