How to install fire door closer

Hi, We are installing a fire door closer in our house, we are unsure how to do this as have never done this before. I feel as though it is the wrong way, it just dosent look right compared to some others. Unfortunately, there is no video for this product.
As you can see the door will not fully open when the closer is attached (i know the screws aren't in proper this was because i was taking it off then thought to put it on here)

My experience of working with door closers is very limited, namely adjusting the door closer in my local pub.

That said, I get the impression that they should be on the hinge side of the door.

Thanks all i guessed that but for some reason we thought it could go on that side too, i will change it!

For those who are wondering why its on the wrong side, its because we have seen them mounted like that here is an example of an image found I'm guessing its just as the hinges are on the other side? And we didn't want to see it in the living room so the way we had it on our door above it would have been in the hallway.

That ain't gonna work, unless it's a solid door. First time you open it the screws will pull out.

That sure is one hefty closer. I have always preferred the concealed type for 50kg fire doors.

What he said - I've got a fire door between house a garage and want the closer on the garage side.

I don't like those crappy spring things - they're massively tensioned when the door is open but have no pulling force to actually shut the door and rely on slamming it.

Barymatic make jamb closers that are variable rate, much better quality than those you justifiably complain about @cdbe, but the OP'll be looking at laying out a lot more than a fiver for one!

Yes, me too and the beauty of them is even if you can't adjust them enough to close a really heavy door then you can fit more than one.

The type posted by the OP can be adjusted so that it slows as it reaches the last 5(?) degrees.

I have only ever adjusted one, which was a lobby door in a pub (no locks).

The type of door closer you have linked to, aren't they all slam types?

Thanks all appreciate your help and advice, we have fitted the overhead one as the concealed one in the door (it was like they are today, but had more of a bar than chain) was closing too fast and banging loudly which is no good in the middle of the night when residents are asleep, and it was too strong (which is good for a fire door but) was knocking elderly people out the way, so we put the overhead one as it can be adjusted (it still closes within 25 secs as required)
