You could bind the wire ends together and then solder
even solid core cables such as twin and earth?

You could - but you asked about joining 6mm² to 10mm² conductors, and they wouldn't be 'solid'.

Perhaps a better answer would be not to let the situation arise in the first place. Lots of electrical rules give rise to situations that would be better simply completely avoided.
In other words, don't make the joint where it is inaccessible.
