How to remove polyfilla from skirting boards

I've recently (a week or so ago) finished sanding down, prepping, priming and glossing some skirting boards in my house. I have now managed to get polyfilla all over them in one specific area.

Is there away to remove the polyfilla from the skirting boards without having to sand it all back and do all the work all over again?

Wash it off.
Should soften with water.
Might damage the paintwork though
