Which will cause some volts drop, the normal way is a diode in parallel with the radio, so it shorts and blows the fuse.

but the finite time it takes a fuse to blow coupled with the speed at which semiconductors can be killed, means that it is a much less sure way of protecting semiconductor electronics than is 'blocking' reverse polarity with a series diode (or diodes).

Experience leads me to agree with JohnW2 By all means use the fuse blowing diode as a second line of defence but do not rely on it.

Quite. I should have added that. I think I must be old-fashioned, since the sort of radios I deal with virtually come free in packets of corn flakes these days
