How to seal and protect worksurface from sink water

Our kitchen sink work surface has a gap between the tiles and the worksurface itself. On either side we have sealed it using silicon and this protected from water. However at the rear of the sink (right hand side in the photo) there is a gap below the tiles. We have made some attempt to reduce the splash from the sink but still water gets into the gap. Are we correct to be concerned about water ingress down the back of the work surface and what options are there to seal this gap and keep it looking "nice" for my wife?

Silicon. The same as the sides.

Use clear silicone if you don't want a white line bead.
It's opaque when set but it tends to blend in well with most finishes.

Over time it'll go horrid, frowzy looking.

My advice would be to look out for a colour matched sealer that will blend better with the tile. However seeing as that top looks sodden, you need to do your best to dry it out as best as possible before hand otherwise the silicone wont bond well and wont form a good seal. Consider retreating your work top too.
