How to search for leak

Hi guys I would be incredibly grateful if I could receive some pointers on how to search for a leak

At the moment the property is is two Storey as in ground and first and the bathroom is on the first directly below is the hallway and there is a brown discoloration coming through

Push a thin screwdriver through the centre of the damage in the ceiling, from below. Find where the screwdriver appears above, then that should give you a clue where to look, though stains do not always appear directly below a leak, water can run along timbers.

If no obvious leaks, try wrapping toilet tissue around pipes, that will quickly identify the exact point of the leak.
 
The stain is elongated, so the leak is probably somewhere on pipework parallel to that.
