I like the idea of varnish like Ronseal Diamond hard over wax or oil as it's going to be easier to keep clean and wipe. I've read though that water based varnishes can't be used.

What do you guys recommend?

Your doors are already waxed/oiled? If so you can't just varnish over it - it will not hold.
Sanding veneer doors? How much would be left?

Hi guys - internal doors. They're all new and untreated currently

Three coats of woodstain is one option, needs doing before doors are hung.

Make sure you use an oil based stain as the water based stains/finishes could lift the veneer. I unfortunately speak from experience. The doors probably had a label attached that will give you guidance or point you in the right direction.

hope this helps.[/u]
