How wise is it to fight BC?

As discussed in other posts, my extension was signed off (Building Notice) a year ago despite lack of inspection by BC of engineers calcs, RSJ's or DPM/oversite (we have suspended wood floor). Personally I feel that my Cert is meaningless given the areas it doesn't cover.

Various local professionals have been amazed that my job was signed off and one or two have suggested foul play at work here. I am now looking to open up the ceiling and floor to check the steels and DPM respectively.

Is it worth pursuing the BC for a sensible explanation of how they signed off the job, or am I at risk of having any problems enforced against me?

Cheers.

They'll go all 'jobsworth' on you if you do.

If you think they've been negligent then you could start by complaining, to the BC manager, or their head of department, or better still write to the relevant ombudsman. If no-one knows you're unhappy then nothing will ever happen.

The line you will probably hear from the BC department is that it's ultimately the owner's responsibility to ensure the works comply with the regs and they'd be absolutely right.
