Human race tipping point...

Monkeh, care to enlighten me as to where i'd got it wrong?

You lost me at nearly human processors.

Ok fair point, what i meant was that computer technology is bordering on the ability of the human brain...

And with the acceleration of technological advances, we'll be breaking many many boubdaries very quickly, and i suspect unearthing many more, very different boundaries !!

Computer processors can already do calculations far quicker than the human brain. What computers lack though is intelligence, or our take on intelligence (although computer scientists are working towards that goal)
I think it's going to take a big leap in computing to produce a truly "sentient" computer, that thinks in similar terms to humans.

We've already got things that can think like you joinerjohn, but we usually use them for sitting on and cr*pping out of.

This is my point... in the last 2000 yrs we've gone from wood to metal, and in the last 200 years from printing on paper to 10 terrabyte processors of information..

in the next 50 years, we'll know what the human psyche is won't we?

There comes a point when saturation starts appering over the horizon, for example we are down to a few atom thick in some of the computer chip architecture, we would not be able to go beyond a single atom thick devices, we are quite close to that, the day when someone can come up with a machine or a gadget that irons and folds my shirts is the day when that saturation point arrives.

We have all the gadgets now we need except two, one to wipe our bum and the other to wash our pants and shirts and so on, and iron and fold them for next day. Oh, a third gadget that could equally be handy is a pair of tweezers to pull all those ugly hair from my ear canal and lobes! I can get to them as I can't see what i am doing, my wife won't pluck them out for me, because last time she did she nearly destroyed my ear, and wax is no good for my sensitive skin!

But I am sure that day isn't that far. but will every household be able to afford such a gadget? currently we need a robot that uses super computer to do just that costing 10 million pounds (I am just guessing that btw)

I'll have a pint of what you're drinking !!!

Lol, it's quite difficult to have a sensible (albeit stretching) debate on here these days .. isn't it?

Yep their called sooey's brain cell. If you had two you'd be fookin gifted.

By the same token, I am sure there is plenty of stuff out there that I could never comprehend, even if I had until the end of time. Stuff that others "get", without batting an eyelid.

That is why once you get to a certain level of detail people end up specialising. Two equally smart people can go their separate ways and when they get back together they have no idea about what the other one is an expert in. It does take time and effort though and in my opinion a formal education when it comes to matters of science.

And you are probably correct that one day humans will run out of brain processing ability to comprehend some stuff. It might already be here in stuff like maths - all the really clever stuff is worked out by the youngsters. The more mature brain is already in decline by 30. I work with recent grads who are far quicker than me at learning new stuff. I get by with experience, knowing what matters and what doesn't, and a certain degree of BS.

However I genuinely believe that before humans reach the limit we will have developed computers which will have developed computers which are more intelligent than we are. Then they will work out how to plug our brains into their systems. Then who knows what will happen then - and that will happen in some of our lifetimes.

You don't even know how paracetamol works FFS. Stop pretending that humans are intelligent.
