Been looking at oil to go in a '94 reg Merc C220 with an M111.961 engine.

Millers optimum choice is Trident 5w40 full syn. and quotes a 5.5L fill.

Had a look on ebay for a 5+1L offer and there's Mannol Extreme 5w40 described as a hydro sythentic engine oil. I've researched this and its a 'hydocracked' oil where the base stock molecules are reconfigured to work better with the additive ingredients.

As best I understand, Hydro Sythentic oil is somewhere between full synthetic and semi-sythentic!

Never actually heard of Hydro Sythentic engine oil before.
Sounds like oil with a splash of water!

Its really a suitable oil for use in vehicles which use the same oil for their hydraulic systems......some suspensions, transmissions, power take offs or whatever. Its been in the farming community for quite a while.
I'd use the Millers brew in the Merc!
John :)

Thanks John!

I'm Millers man myself to be honest. Just need to get the 1L to go with the 5L since the capacity is 5.5L.

Have managed to get a 6L pack of Merc genuine 5w40 (MB229.5) at a good price.

Here, if anyone's interested!

Its actually had W5 brand 15w40 in that you get at Lidil so 5w40 Merc spec oil should be cold start improvement.
