Had a hole cut in my steel to pass a SVP through it to run between 2 joists BUT i forgot about the joist hangers so now I have offered the steel up there is a hanger passing over the hole. Is there any way to shift the offending joist over 50mm to allow it all to work or can this one joist be nailed directly into the ledger in any way (may not be good practice but would it work.

The rest of the joists including the one on the other side of the hole will be fully fixed using joist hangers.

Can you make the joist a bit longer so it sits in the steel work to negate the need for a hanger?

It has been cut unfortunately. I could pair a joist to the back of it and sit that in there if it would work but not sure thats any good is it?

That could work. Are you suggesting cutting it back to mid span, splice and then cut into the steel?

It's one of 10+ joists in the room so not taking huge loads just on its own.

Out of curiosity, did an engineer calculate that cut out? o_O

For the joist .... move it!

Woody yes an engineer did calc the cut out.

The joist is built into the brickwork at the other end. To move it over can i just cut out the existing then cut a joist hanger into the brickwork and install a new joist?

That's bizarre. It's not even a hole just a square cut!

Yes move the joist at the other end or trim it nearer the beam if the pipe position permits

Yeh square cut in the factory. Had to up size the steel and have a stiffener plate welded to it to maintain the performance but should now allow for no visible beams or bulkheads anywhere which was the main goal.

Can the masonry joist hangers be cut into existing brickwork and mortared in or will i need to remove bricks and then re brick including the joist hanger?

Moving the joist over so the hanger misses the pipe is the way forward and the current centers are small so the move shouldnt cause issues.
