I thought Americans preferred basketball over football (soccer) because of the fast pace and goals a plenty, no 0-0 draws ?

I worked at the sky dome in Toronto a long time ago, I was part of the crew that swapped the pitch from baseball to football. Certainly basketball is very popular.
