Hi there, just back from a weeks vacation and we have no hot water. (the bar was low so I added water with the black valve, it then went too high so i released water from a couple of rads, it is now just over 1) the boiler is trying to kickin but the usual gas fireup sound is not happening. i look in the little window and do not see a flame, does this mean the pilot light is out? can i restart it myself? cheers

Your boiler does not have a permanent pilot light.

But I cannot guess what your problem is.

have you turned off at the mains and tried restarting it?

I also recommend a pressure of 1.5 Bar.

Thanks for that! I tried turning off at the mains and putting the bar up to 1.5. The symptons have changed a bit. Now when I turn the hot water tap or the heat on the fan starts up for the flue, and there is a rapid ticking sound, sounds like it is trying to throw a spark to ignite the gas like when you start a burner on a hob. The gas does not ignite, no flame, and after about 5-6 secs the red safety lockout light comes on and shuts down.

Do you have a gas supply perhaps as confirmed by a working gas hob or cooker?

If so then it sounds as if the gas valve may have failed but it could be other causes as well such as an overheat stat.

However you really need a competent CORGI engineer to investigate.

Tony, thanks a lot for your help. I got a Corgi guy in this afternoon and he said the gas valve is bad.

He also said he needs an instruction manual to be able to easily fit the part. Anyone know where I can get one of these for a Glowworm Icon 23T boiler?

Its a pretty straight swap on these as i recall. Try googling the manuals library
